How Donations are Distributed

In 2007, the National Religious Retirement Office distributed $23 million in Basic Grants to 482 religious communities. An average of $949 was awarded for every sister, brother, and order priest past age 70.

Another $296,240 was awarded in Special Assistance Grants to 15 religious communities.

Supplemental Grants ranging in size from $66,000 to $250,000 and totaling $1,922,000 were distributed to 10 communities. These grants help communities in immediate need of assistance to implement a retirement strategy. Trained volunteers conduct site visits, assist with financial planning, and submit recommendations for the distribution of Supplemental Grants.

Supplemental Identified Need Grants (SING) help finance financial forecasting and strategic planning, workshop participation, and continuing education related to elder care. SINGs are awarded in amounts not to exceed $5,000 and can be used to buy computer software, hardware, and training. NRRO distributed $83,589.76 in SINGs last year.
