Meet some of the women and men who benefit from the Retirement Fund for Religious.
Sister Celeste Burgos, MHSH, 79
“Thank you for thinking about us! Your support acknowledges that we are the hands and feet of people, continuing the mission of Christ even in our retirement. Your generosity has been instrumental in helping others, and we are grateful for your recognition of our ongoing service. Together, we make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we touch. Thank you for being part of our journey,” shares Sister Celeste Burgos.
Born on April 25, 1944, in Humacao, Puerto Rico, Sister Celeste’s spiritual journey was deeply influenced by her parents’ unwavering Catholic faith. Their commitment to daily Rosary recitations and pious devotions laid the foundation for spiritual development.
Inspired by the nuns she encountered in her parish and by their dedication as missionaries and to their charism of evangelism, Sister Celeste desired to be a nun from an early age. She decided to join the Congregation of Mission Helpers of the Sacred Heart in 1967. Embracing a life of missionary work and evangelization, she embarked on a journey that would touch the lives of countless individuals and communities.
Throughout her years of service, Sister Celeste served in various locations, including many years in the Archdiocese of Boston, and earned degrees in theology, religious education and pastoral ministry. Evangelization, catechesis and parish work became the hallmarks of Sister Celeste’s ministry.
Now retired from active ministry, Sister Celeste continues to reach out to former parishioners and offers solace to the lonely within the walls of her retirement home. The Eucharist, the Rosary and St. Thérèse of Lisieux hold special places in her heart, constantly reminding her of the power of faith and prayer.
Drawing from her years of wisdom and experience, Sister Celeste shares invaluable advice to all who seek a purposeful and fulfilling life. She emphasizes the importance of keeping God’s presence at the forefront of every moment, finding solace and strength in offering one’s suffering to Him. Through this unwavering trust and reliance on God’s love, she believes one can navigate life’s challenges and enjoy a long and fulfilling journey of faith.
